Webinar: Transforming Chemistry Education through the Green Chemistry Commitment

This webinar will provide an overview of a new program titled the Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC). The program is a departmental commitment designed for higher educational institutions as a voluntary, flexible framework for chemistry departments to adopt green chemistry theory and practice. This presentation will feature an overview of the program, along with a perspective from Dr. Ed Brush, a GCC faculty advisory board member and professor of chemistry at Bridgewater State University, one of the first signers of the Commitment. Webinar: Sustainability Leadership Programs- Best Practices, Common Challenges, and Next Steps

This webinar, hosted by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), will engage participants in exploring a framework for building sustainability leadership programs at academic institutions.
The session will begin with an assessment of the theory and practice of current sustainability leadership program (based on Shriberg & MacDonald “Sustainability Leadership Programs: Emerging Goals, Methods & Best Practices” study published in the Journal of Sustainability Education), including program design/methodology, assumptions and principles, and key skills built. Following the program overviews, panelists representing different leadership program models Portland State University, Duke University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Vermont– will discuss their approach, audience/niche, successes and areas for improvement.  The event will take place on May 21, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (EDT).
