FELLOWSHIPS

The following resources provide information about internships that promote sustainability and green building efforts of colleges and universities, and create leaders in the field of Sustainability

  • Alcoa Fellowship
    Alcoa Foundation Conservation and Sustainability Fellowship Program to improve knowledge and building leaders in the field of conservation and sustainability
  • Cascadia Fellowship
    A fellowship program by the Cascadia Region Green Building Council to celebrate exemplary leadership in the Pacific Northwest in the field of sustainable design and development
  • CID Sustainability Science Fellowship
    The Sustainability Science Program at Harvard University's Center for International Development offers doctoral, post-doctoral, and mid-career fellowships in Sustainability Science
  • Clean Air - Cool Planet - Climate Fellowship Program
    The highly competitive Clean Air-Cool Planet Climate Fellowship program pairs outstanding students with challenging real-world opportunities to propel society toward a low-carbon future. Highly qualified graduate and undergraduate students in fields such as environmental policy, economics, statistics, engineering, physical and biological sciences complete challenging, in-depth projects. Fellows may be asked to create or update greenhouse gas inventories, conduct feasibility studies, implement operational and process changes to reduce GHG emissions, or create web-based tools and resources.
  • Kresge Fellowship Program
    Second Nature awards fellowships to university executives who will learn the skills and technical information they need to be effective champions for green building at their own under-resourced campuses.
  • National Renewable Energy Laboratory: Executive Energy Leadership Program
    A six-month leadership program gives executives from Colorado-based businesses, government entities, universities, and economic development and non-profit organizations an in-depth look at solar and wind power, biofuels and transportation, and energy efficient building technologies.

AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS

The following resources provide information about awards and competitions that promote sustainability and green building efforts of colleges and universities, and create leaders in the field of Sustainability

  • The Home Depot: RETOOL YOUR SCHOOL Program
    The Home Depot wants to show its gratitude by giving something back to America's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The RETOOL YOUR SCHOOL program is making $150,000 in grants available to a number of HBCUs, to support them in preserving, improving and upgrading their campuses.
  • Walmart: Better Living Business Plan Challenge
    This competition provides a forum for students to showcase their best ideas and to help Walmart learn from some of the brightest minds in the world. It challenges students to invent sustainable products or develop sustainable business solutions and present them to a panel of Walmart executives, suppliers, and environmental organizations.
  • America's Greenest Campus Competition
    This is one of the largest student environmental contest ever, helping to reduce our nation’s carbon footprint through making smarter decisions.
  • Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming
    Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming is the nation's premier competition recognizing the amazing climate leadership at colleges and universities. The event is open to students and faculty and is looking for the best campus-based projects in four categories: green jobs, students in action, innovative design and campus actions.
  • Lifecycle Building Challenge
    Contest recognizing building designs that facilitate and anticipate future changes to and eventual adaptation or dismantling for recovery of all systems, components, and materials
  • Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference – Student Scholarships
    College students interested in receiving complimentary registration to attend the Smart and Sustainable Campuses conference are invited to submit their applications by February 19, 2010. This conference explores smart growth and sustainable practices at higher education institutions that serve the economy, the community, and the environment.   • USGBC Excellence in Green Building Awards
    An award by the U.S. Green Building Council that recognizes high quality educational programs, which integrate green building across the curriculum, to serve as models and resources for other educators
  • USGBC Natural Talent Design Competition
    This competition provides applied learning experience in the principles of integrated design, sustainability, and innovation. The competition is open to students at all higher education levels and who have graduated within the past five years.
